HSP and CEN
CEN:
Childhood Emotional Neglect
Can I ask you some questions?
Do you feel that even though your life seems good, there is something missing that you can't quite put your finger on?
Do you sometimes feel that something is missing in your contact with others? Like you wish things were a little different but you can't quite say what or why?
Do you feel that you understand others well, but they don't seem to understand you? Do you also sometimes wonder if they are even interested in understanding you?
Do you feel more sensitive than others and have a feeling that it is a problem for others and that you should be less sensitive?
Do you have difficulty knowing and expressing what you need, and feel frustrated when your needs are not met?
Do you think and feel a lot, but have difficulty talking about your thoughts and feelings with other people?
Do you feel both physically and emotionally exhausted after intense social interactions and discussions?
Do you have difficulty asking for help or emotional support?
I have written an e-book about this called “The Neglected Sensitivity”, and the first chapter is available for you to read for free!
Childhood emotional neglect
isn’t about what
someone did to you,
it’s about what
they didn’t do for you.
High Sensitivity and CEN
High Sensitivity and CEN are two closely linked psychological factors that can significantly shape an individual’s emotional well-being. High Sensitivity refers to a heightened ability to perceive and respond to external stimuli and emotional cues, making some people more vulnerable to overstimulation and becoming emotionally overwhelmed.
When a highly sensitive child experiences emotional neglect – meaning their emotional needs are often ignored or dismissed – they may experience difficulty developing a secure emotional foundation. This neglect can lead to self-doubt, low self-worth, and difficulty managing emotions in adulthood, as these individuals may have learned to ignore or dismiss their feelings in order to cope with their circumstances. Understanding the connection between high sensitivity and emotional neglect can offer valuable insights into healing and self-acceptance for those dealing with this.
